So if you've been following my real life story you already know a Liver disease patient has to keep track of their MELD score which is between 6 and 40. A score of 6 is you're ok and a score of 40 means death is immanent. This number is based on a calculation of the levels of certain blood chemicals. If your MELD score is 25 or above you have to have blood work every week. My score for the last several weeks has been 25, 28, 27, 27. So they are jabbing me every Monday. On July 13, 2023 the calculation changes by adding a 5th blood chemical. If they were using the new calculation my last score would have been 29. The score and several other things effects if or when a patient can receive an organ transplant. In the past transplants have been performed when the MELD score has been 28 to 30.
